the tastiest thing i’ve made…
Posted on | March 10, 2010 | No Comments

this week. Actually, it’s the tastiest thing in a long time – thus the shoddy photo of hurried and second-helpings. I would really like to delve in to cooking more “ethnic” foods and learn how to cook them right. I’m so sick of my current meal repertoire, it’s not even funny. One thing that I’ve been obsessed with thinking about is a chicken noodle veggie bowl…sorta like what i see on the walls of Mitsua’s menus boards, but am never sure how to order. Even before the demise of winter (ha ha! take that, cold!) I have been so in the mood for fresh and light meals that might involve a simple broth, crisp bean threads and thin proteins. I’m hoping my friend Soo can help me out with Vietnamese cooking, but until we meet in the kitchen I tried this Thai dish – and though it’s not at all related to my noodle bowl…it was sooooo good and sure to come round our table (floor) again.
Please read the following recipe all the way through before attempting to buy for, or prepare.
Yummy Yummy Goddess Food/Thai curried Pork
2 TB canola oil
1 med. finely chopped onion
2 TB red curry paste
2 cloves of garlic – chopped finely
1 c. light coconut milk
1 c. chicken stock
2 TB fish sauce
1 TB dark brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 large red pepper – julienned
1 lb lean boneless pork cutlets – chopped into nice bite-sized pices
2 TB cornstarch mixed into a paste w/ 2 TB water
Cooked white or jasmine rice, as much you prefer
Heat the oil in a large skillet. Add the onion and saute for five minutes, or until soft. Add the curry paste and garlic and cook, stirring for a minute. Then add the coconut milk, stock, stinky fish sauce, sugar and salt and bring to a boil. If I had some chopped zucchini I would add it now with the red peppers and cover – lowering to a simmer. Simmer as so for about eighteen minutes, or until peppers are nice and soft. Add the pork to the curry and cover again – simmer for around another six minutes, or until the pork is done in the center. Now add the corn starch paste, and stir into the skillet until the whole mixture thickens – it will do so quite fast and magically! Serve this fragrant pot over a bed of rice as you desire. You could top it off with a squeeze of fresh lemon and a chopping of basil if you desire, but I did not, simply because I didn’t have any..isn’t that always the case?
**Do not serve to your 16 mo. old child as he/she will make a horrible spicy face, unless he/she is accustomed to “spicy” dishes. If you do feed them a bite because they do not stop begging for such, just continue to eat yours and enjoy as if nothing happened. All the more for you and your husband!
….And over four hours later your kitchen will still smell like a goddess!

Can you believe just how incredibly NICE it is outside today?!
H and I spent a good part of the morning down at the playground kicking a ball around and meeting new friends. I was quite surprised when he was ready to go, cause I could have stayed out there all day. But, he got home, ate lunch and CRASHED. So, now I have some time to get some new shop photos done. I’m making good use of this glorious sunshine!!
I’ll give you a little run-through of where I’m at:

I think this would be PERFECT with a striped boatneck shirt a beat up denim skirt and flats.
That’s how I’d wear it, and just might, if no one buys it first.

another one of my recycled (or is it upcycled?) necktie flower pins.
This was a calvin klein, and I really really like how it turned out.

a set of three vintage Ball freezer jars:
I’m sure I don’t have to suggest much for you to do with these, there’s tons of things.
I like them all simple and pretty on a table filled with wildflowers or a garden bouquet.
I can still make out the faint pencil writing of the contents on one lid, though not enough to know what was in there…i wonder….

my new cards arrived yesterday!! I’m quite happy with them.
see something curious?
I’m working on something new! right now my lips are sealed, but i’ll tell you soon!
(or you could just zoom in on the photo and read the silly thing)
Before i get back to pictures, I’ll join Jenn in an unofficial secretary-appreciation moment. Here’s mine:

Thanks H, for keeping it together while my hands are tied with other important matters.
I couldn’t do it without you! xox
Have a good day everybody!

Hi friends! Hi me! I feel like I’ve been away for so long here….
Busy days have gone and yet they still come – but now my things to do are back to the grind things- back to computing, picturing, ironing, dinner making, back to cleaning up the mess that occurs when we have things to do “out there”…I wish there was a mandatory three-day-weekend rule here in the US, to-do-days and then one day to relax and tidy and get ready for the week ahead…
But, we were spoiled for two days…we slept in until 1020 am on Saturday…ummm…how the heck did that happen? We must have been tired!! Bless my parents. Really. Hagen is their first grandchild, so they are more than willing to watch him for a night or two.
On Saturday G and I went into the city to see Alice at the Imax. Words cannot describe. seriously. I want to see it again. NOW. I loved her dresses, i loved all the sewing-y things, i loved the mad hatter… I loved loved loved it. After…we spent some time in Soho. We ate at Stout. We went to Pearl River Market. We went to M&J Trimmings. I bought a big black flower – old millinery style and half a yard of sequined trim to make a headband.
Today we grilled – back home – dad’s birthday. Hagen was as happy to see us as we were to see him. We only ate once today – those cheeseburgers were far too big!
Oh yeah – and I listed this painting in my shop tonight.
