go on in

July 25th, 2010 by Liz

Hagen says go on – go on in – it’s ok , I’ve got the baby…

I gave an eentsy beensty little look into our house over here.

It’s ok, it wasn’t much trouble, I didn’t move an inch from where I was sitting.

Honestly, I’d love to take more indoor shots, because I really do love our home, but the natural light in here comes in through the back, and there we have no windows. It’s quite mellow and dim and all campy in here – which we like – but again, doesn’t suit well for lazy photographers like me.

So come have a peek, I’ll shove over on my chair, and H leaves quite a bit of room on the couch – don’t mind the applejuice stains….

winding down

July 25th, 2010 by Liz

Ah. It’s completely pouring crazy rain here right now, such drastic change from the electrifying sun and heat blaze this morning. it was HOT! I’m a little relieved then that we – oops – can’t be outside right now – it’s raining! (have to stay in). The weekend was good. Yesterday Corry and I visited three yard sales and had an early lunch on the road. She doesn’t mind at all that I poke, and if she does, she never says anything. It’s been ages since she and I have been able to spend some good time together, so it was fun! and I came home with a bunch of good stuff that I’ll be adding to my shop this week.

Then, Saturday afternoon was spent with even more friends (i love it!) at a cool pirate party complete with a pinata, smores cupcakes and a  sno-cone machine. H received his first stick on tattoo, and got quite upset about it. Is it bad that I laughed?

And today – a run to the deli for the big Sunday paper and three apple pastries. We bought a vacuum (yay!) and more charcoal. We had sandwiches and pickles and chips for lunch. Hung the laundry…. Sunday indeed!

market days

July 23rd, 2010 by Liz

Certainly the weekends are market days, but the one happy thing is that we now have a seriously dedicated farm market building at the fairgrounds here in our neck of the woods. Unlike the other markets which take place in a parking lot (which is fine by me) this one gets its own permanent structure and a longer market year. Red, white and blue potatoes, kale for a dollar a bunch, llamas and spinners, grass fed lamb and locally crafted cheese and wine…

Add it to the list including kiddie pools, clothes lines, naked babies in the yard – weekend perks around here.

wednesday

Tonight rain snuck in without me knowing, and left without a word, but the wet tires on the road – dead giveaway. Sorry I missed it. Still waiting for a glorious thunderstorm to soak the garden and shake the house. Even I have begun seeking out weather reports in the mornings, via the web, and hoping for rain. Sneaky pete.

H and I cleaned and filled his pool early this morning. Under my breath, in the sick sweat I woke up to (from too much meat consumption and a fine helping of (mostly crisp) peach cobbler before bed) I uttered aloud that this was my penance, for ill doings the evening before. Absorbed in my self-created tasks of pool-filing, weed tossing and lawn-gathering I sweated the sickness away until rain began to fall on our already wet heads. And so we stayed outside a bit longer, worries quite gone and a full day still ahead.

No car today, so homey things, and H didn’t seem to mind.

A book, and play and kisses and hugs – then naps ensued later (me too – much to my delight). I sprung awake at 330 to start a pizza dough, for sister coming to dinner. Created a beautiful white pizza with basil from our garden and black olives on top and served with a spinach salad with toasted walnuts, dried cranberries and poppy seed dressing that has become an event in our household. Save for the little one, who knows how to say “pizza” and now abhors anything green.

And so was the day. Long enough and pleasant enough and so….reading before bed, dreaming of books ahead, happy and snug and we are ok.

that’s all.

when weekends end

July 19th, 2010 by Liz

when the week ends and a new one begins, our little life here goes on as it does:

cereal for breakfast

we watch Bob or Cars

before venturing outside

to water plants and weed the garden

most often there’s laundry to do

and cleaning inside

or errands to run

or a thrift stop to make

toys to pick up

and reading in bed with a ba and a blanket

maybe a friend to visit

then dinner to make

and the dishes to do,

the pool to jump in

a few listings to make

grandma to call

and it sounds quite simple, but ask any mom with a 21 month old

…and she’ll tell you it’s quite  a busy day.

you two
